Israel 1952 Mahane Yisrael Post Office Opening Cover – 15 Pruta Stamp with Tab
10.9.1952
OPENING OF
MAHANE YISRAEL
POST OFFICE
ISRAEL PHILATELIC EXCHANGE CLUB
P.O. BOX 2926, TEL-AVIV, ISRAEL
English Description
Original Israeli postal-history cover commemorating the opening of the Mahane Yisrael Post Office on September 10, 1952.
The attractive illustrated cachet shows a symbolic transition from temporary tents to permanent apartment buildings, reflecting the extraordinary period of immigration, absorption and rapid development experienced by the young State of Israel during the early 1950s.
The cover is inscribed:
“OPENING OF MAHANE YISRAEL POST OFFICE”
and dated:
10.9.1952
15 Pruta Stamp with Attached Tab
The cover is franked with a colorful Israeli 15 Pruta postage stamp with its original attached tab, carrying the Hebrew holiday greeting “Mo'adim LeSimcha.”
The stamp and tab are tied to the cover by a MAHANE YISRAEL postal cancellation.
The complete stamp-and-tab combination is an important part of the item and should remain attached to the original cover.
Early Israeli Post Office Opening Cover
Rather than an ordinary stamp First Day Cover, this is a special Post Office Opening Cover, produced to commemorate the establishment/opening of a postal facility.
Such covers form an interesting specialized area of early Israeli postal history, documenting the rapid expansion of Israel's postal network during the country's formative years.
P.O. Box 2926, Tel Aviv
An additional marking at lower right reads:
P.O. Box 2926, Tel Aviv
Another period cover from the same collection identifies P.O. Box 2926 explicitly as the address of the Israel Philatelic Exchange Club. This provides interesting provenance/context for the present cover, although the club's name itself is not printed on this particular example.
A desirable piece for collectors of early Israel, postal-history event covers, post-office openings, Israeli stamps with tabs and Judaica.
Condition: Very good vintage condition for its age, with minor age-related toning, small marks and light edge/corner wear. Stamp and tab remain attached. Please examine the photograph carefully for exact condition.
