ISRAEL'S GOLDEN JUBILEE
1948–1998

SPECIMEN

The Declaration of the Establishment of the State of Israel

THE DECLARATION OF INDEPENDENCE.

Design: David Ben-Hador

Carmel #300 – 50 Years of Israel's Independence and the Declaration of Independence, 1998.

English Description

Official Israel Postal Authority Philatelic Service Souvenir Leaf issued in 1998 to commemorate the 50th Anniversary – Golden Jubilee – of the State of Israel, 1948–1998.

The colorful design features a large bouquet of red roses, a blue-and-white ribbon, the Israel 50 Jubilee emblem and the inscription:

“ISRAEL'S GOLDEN JUBILEE – 1948–1998.”

SPECIMEN Overprint

The most important feature of this particular example is the clear bilingual overprint at the lower-right corner:

“דוגמא – SPECIMEN”

This distinguishes the leaf from the standard version of the issue and identifies it as a Specimen example.

Israeli souvenir leaves bearing SPECIMEN overprints are known from other official philatelic issues and are collected as distinct varieties from standard examples.

Declaration of Independence Stamp

The leaf bears a 1.15 NIS postage stamp with full tab, commemorating the Declaration of the Establishment of the State of Israel.

The tab is inscribed:

“The Declaration of the Establishment of the State of Israel.”

The stamp and tab are tied to the leaf by a commemorative postal cancellation.

Reverse

The reverse is devoted to The Declaration of Independence, featuring the Hebrew text together with an image of the original signatures and seal.

Graphic design is credited to:

David Ben-Hador

Catalogue Identification

The standard souvenir leaf is catalogued as:

Carmel #300 – 50 Years of Israel's Independence and the Declaration of Independence, 1998.

This particular example bears the additional SPECIMEN overprint. No separate Carmel catalogue number for this exact Specimen version was confirmed in the current Congress Bulaim price table, so it is described conservatively as Carmel #300 – SPECIMEN overprint.

Condition

Very good collectible condition with minor age/storage signs. The stamp and full tab are intact, and the SPECIMEN marking is clearly visible.

Sold exactly as shown in the photographs, front and back.
