Obverse: A chalice (cup) surrounded by a pearl design and ancient Hebrew script – a motif taken from ancient Jewish coins.

Reverse: The face value "Half Israeli Lira" and the name of the state "Israel" in Hebrew and Arabic.

Background: The coin designs of young Israel intentionally drew upon ancient Jewish coins, as a connecting link between renewed sovereignty and the heritage of the Second Temple period. The chalice motif is one of the most recognizable.
