Description (English): An original New Zealand commemorative 1 Dollar coin from 1989. This coin was issued ahead of the XIVth Commonwealth Games, which took place in Auckland, New Zealand, in 1990.

Coin Design & Specifications:

  • Reverse: Features a female gymnast in a dynamic, stroboscopic sequence capturing multiple stages of a jump/routine. The figure is surrounded by the inscription "XIVth Commonwealth Games Auckland" and the denomination "1 Dollar". This striking design was created by designer Xiao Wang.

  • Obverse: The right-facing portrait of Queen Elizabeth II. The legend around the portrait reads: "ELIZABETH II NEW ZEALAND 1989".

  • Technical Data: As noted on the included specification card, the coin is made of Cupro-Nickel, weighs 27.216 grams, and has a diameter of 38.735 mm. It was produced by the Royal Australian Mint on behalf of the Reserve Bank of New Zealand.
